3 Tools to Secure Peace In Your Life, Today!

Life in its simplest form brings reward each and every day. Here are three simple tips you can start applying to your life today to simplify your circumstances and bring peace to your environment.

1. Breathe

 We as human beings tend to lose all sense of self when we feel tension rising in our spirits. The feeling of being overwhelmed often times resembles the sensation of drowning, which is why the most important thing you can do when you sense chaos brewing around you is take a moment to breathe. Take that deep breath of fresh air and allow it to fill your lungs. When you feel lost or overwhelmed, get to a quiet space (I prefer to be outside) and feel the air around you. Learn to appreciate the present moment, and allow yourself to surrender to your environment.

2. Set Your Boundaries

As human beings, especially as transgender individuals it is so easy to become a doormat, in order to protect yourself. By allowing other’s to invade your privacy you are forfeiting your rights and opening yourself up to be used, abused, and belittled. Set personal and social boundaries that will empower you instead of appeasing the people in your family, on your job, in your social circles, etc, that don’t have your best interest at heart.

Also, set boundaries for yourself! Know what you will and won’t do in stressful or compromising positions. Know at what point you will walk away, take time for yourself, and when you will revisit the situation. By doing these things you are taking control of your environment and your circumstance, which gives you the upper hand in all situations.

3. Simplify Your Surroundings

If you’ve ever heard the saying, “The state of your home dictates the state of your life?” then you know the power of keeping a clutter free environment.

 It is so important to have a space (your home, bedroom, work space, etc.) where you can clear your mind, release tension, and relax. Take all of the negative energy that stress creates and focus it into doing something productive such as cleaning and organizing. In order to have clean, clear thoughts you need a clean, clear space where you can gather those thoughts.

Try utilizing these tools every day for the next month, and journal your experience. You’ll be amazed at how your mood will lift, your daily stress level will decrease, and your focus will sharpen due to clarity in your mind and peace in your spirit!
